Integrated Health Promotion Working Group

This group provides the strategic directions and tasks for integrated health promotion for the Upper Hume PCP.  The key initiatives and work of this group are detailed in the Healthy Communties Plan 2006-2009.

Through partnerships and our common planning framework we are working towards integrated health promotion in our catchment across the shires of Indigo and Towong, the City of Wodonga and the Kiewa Valley of the Alpine Shire.

Integrated health promotion (IHP) is defined as:

"Agencies and organisations, from a wide range of sectors, and communities in a catchment, working in a collaboratie maner, using a mix of health promotion interventions and capacity building strategies to address priority health and well-being issues."

We have 3 health promotion priorities for 2006-2009 on which we agree to work together - in brief these are

GOAL 1 - To increase the opportunity for people to participate in physical activity within the Upper Hume Region by June 2009 - we will increase participation in existing planned physical activities, evaluate the need for new planned physical activities where required and  improve the use of the built environment and encourage incidental physical activity.

GOAL 2 - To improve access to and consumption of healthy food across the Upper Hume region for disadvantaged groups and children by 2009 - we will increas awareness and action regarding food security issues in the catchments, and support and implement healthy eating strategies in early years and school settings across the region.  

GOAL 3  - Using a collaborative approach we will increase social inclusion and connectedness of those most at risk in our communities - we will improve our understanding and skills to work with those most at risk of poorer health (eg. Aborigianl, low income, unemployed, mental illness, drought, etc).
